Robert De Niro Opens Asia's First Nobu Hotel in the Philippines
Hollywood A-lister, Robert De Niro, opened Asia's first Nobu Hotel in the Philippines, The Associated Press reported.
De Niro attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the hotel held Monday, May 18, 2015, together with his partners in this venture, worldwide famous fusion chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and Hollywood movie producer Meir Teper. The event was also honored with the presence of Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, Australian billionaire James Packer, and Macau businessman Lawrence Ho.
What the Hotel Has to Offer
The 32nd, newly-opened branch of the Nobu Hotels is specifically located in the City of Dreams Casino. The luxury hotel reportedly includes 321 rooms for traveling guests, or those who want to experience living in comfort, notes GMA Network. The Nobu Style is said to be a "modern Japanese aesthetic seen in Nobu restaurants worldwide."
Being part of a 6.2-hectare integrated resort complex, the nearby amenities of the hotel include DreamPlay, the world's first Dreamworks-inspired interactive playspace and CenterPlay, an entertainment bar showcasing talents of known local and international artists and the nightclub Pangaea.
Aside from that, Nobu Matsuhisa is also offering exciting food concepts and dining experience to diners. The Japanese chef had excellent training in a sushi bar in his country, and imbibed a different culture and environment when he traveled to Peru, as noted in a March article of GMA network. Such exposure widened his knowledge and artistry -- making his cuisine "inventive" and fresh -- which will create an amazing gastronomic experience to hotel guests.
What Nobu Partners Say
Teper said on the press conference on Monday that having a Nobu hotel and restaurant in the Philippines is a dream come true, as it is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.
"It was a dream that came through and we are very happy with what we have achieved," Teper said.
De Niro, famed for portraying the young Vito Corleone in "The Godfather: Part II" is also glad and very satisfied that the project pushed through and is now open to the public. "When I came here a little less than a year ago, I was concerned about when it will be ready but suddenly, it is ready, and I'm very happy about it," he said.
The veteran actor also clarified that he is actually involved in the business and is not only "lending his name to it", as part of a marketing scheme. "I've looked at what everything is, I am aware very much about the design, and so on and if there's anything I don't like I say it," De Niro told the press.
"To me you have to do more than lend your name, you gotta be there in order to just be more a part of it and really believe in it," he added.
In the March interview with GMA Network, Matsuhisa said that he likes Filipino's hospitality, which is good for his business. "We need hospitality like this. Even in the restaurant, when guests come, I want to see customers smiling."
