FX ‘The Strain’ Season 2 Episode 1 Spoilers: Civilization Begins to Transform Into the Vampire Race
Season 2 of the mega-hit FX cable series "The Strain" has now got a release date of July 12 at 10 p.m., according to Deadline.
This smash hit series was heralded as the No. 1 new cable show last summer, which as been met with mostly favorable reviews.
The series started off last summer with Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), an epidemiologist who is the head of the C.D.C. Canary Team in New York City, investigating a strange airplane on an airport tarmac that had gone dark, even with all the passengers still inside.
What ensued after that was a mix of a medical investigative drama that coupled with old-world vampire mythology. Goodweather, accompanied by his colleague Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro), rat exterminator Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand), and pawn-show owner and veteran vampire killer Abraham Setrakian (a WW2 Jewish survivor of Nazi occupation), found out what the strain was doing to people -- turning them into vampires -- and they took to the streets to hunt down and kill the bloodsuckers.
The group was met with political blowback though and at every turn they were fighting off vampires and human authorities. Season 1 ended on a dark note, with seemingly thousands of people turned and little hope for containing the outbreak.
Season 2, according to Spoilers Guide, has become a pre-apocalyptic series now. The general population has become more willing to accept the fact that they are being invaded by these monstrous creatures, which are turning their own people into vampires. The streets have become a "fight or die" situation and for the most part, it is every man for himself.
Goodweather and Martinez will be working hard to find a biological weapon to use against the vampires while Setrakian and Fet are working to find an ancient book that could hold the key to wiping them out via folklore methods.
This series, which is based off the book trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, as reported by Deadline, has been mostly following the chronology of the book's timelines. Although the series has had a few subtle changes, which included adding characters, the timeline seems to be following that of the books. Book 2 in the series, "The Fall," brings forth the more supernatural elements and partially dispenses with the scientific explanations, but not completely.
