A school teacher in China is being forced to abort her child after gaining permission to have an additional kid in her hometown, Yahoo! News reports.

A family officer confirmed Tuesday that pregnant Qin Yi was ordered to have an abortion because the province that she teaches in has different rules. She and her husband had one child from their previous spouses and are allowed to have one kid with each other according to Anhui province rules.

Yet, Qin will be fired from her teaching job if she doesn't get an abortion by the end of the month. According to reports, she is five months pregnant.

The teacher applied for permission to have a child in Anhui province, where regulations allow couples to have a child if they don't have more than two children from previous marriages. Her residency is registered there, but she and her husband live in Guizhou province where child policy rules are stricter.

Guizhou only allows couples to have children if they have only one other child from a previous marriage.

Authorities are investigating the case to see if Qin transferred her residency to Anhui just so that she would be allowed to have another child.

Different provinces have different regulations on giving birth to fit national policy ever since the 35-year-long "one child" policy was lifted in late 2013.

The "one-child" policy has been to blame for China's birthrate decline while others blame poverty.

The communist country has been encouraging more people to have children to combat a fast aging society and declining labor force, USA Today reports. Yet, the "one child" policy is technically still in force because couples have to go through a lot to have a second child.

It is still possible for couples to face forced abortions and massive fines if they have more than one child without permission from the government.
