At $2.4 billion in domestic and international box office receipts, the Fast and Furious movie franchise is one of the most successful of all time. Universal Pictures intended to release the latest film in the series, Fast and Furious 7, Jul. 10, 2014. But, with the untimely passing of star Paul Walker, the entire series was in limbo. Now Fast and Furious 7 has been pushed back until Apr. 10, 2015. Walker will still reprise his role as Bryan O'Conner, but obviously his character will have to be written out of the movie. Script changes are currently taking place.

Universal and director James Wan could have chosen to not rewrite the script. It's very possible that Walker's character could have been kept alive via CGI, but that move would likely be seen as crass. The film was already well into production in Atlanta, so previously-shot footage contained Walker. However, CGI was used 20 years ago during production of The Crow. Brandon Lee, son of the late Martial Arts legend Bruce Lee, was fatally wounded in an accidental shooting while on The Crow's Wilimington, N.C., set. Lee's stunt double and friend Chad Stahelski completed the rest of the scenes. Lee's face was mapped onto the Stahelski's face using special effects. The result, mind you, was terrific and it's unnoticeable to all but the most ardent cinephiles.

Universal has wisely decided to avoid controversy. They will instead keep the movie going, rather than scrap the existing footage and start from scratch or use tech wizardry to keep O'Conner going. Hollywood tradition suggests that Fast and Furious 7 will be dedicated to Walker. His character will be given a proper sendoff rather than just pretend he never existed.

Walker was a real life racer and car collector. His passion and knowledge showed onscreen and that helped audiences connect with his character. Scrapping such a lucrative series would have been unwise, morality aside.

R&B singer and actor Tyrese Gibson, who plays Roman Pearce in the franchise, mentioned the legacy Paul Walker left behind during a red carpet event. Tabloid! had the scoop.

"Right at the top of the year, we'll be here for Fast 7." He went on to say: "At this point, it's all about being inspired by Paul. I mean, he started the franchise, literally, one of my best friends ever, man.

"Sometimes I find it hard to enjoy life because he's not here, but me knowing him, he would want us to keep smiling, keep having fun," Gibson said.

Gibson also confirmed that the production would pick back up this month in Dubai.
