Ronda Rousey Next Fight & News: 'Rowdy' Prefers "Best Fighter" Over "Sexiest Woman Alive" Tag Anytime
Ultimate Fighting Championship women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is in top form, and she doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, one magazine has ranked her as the No.1 pound-for-pound UFC fighter, beating other men on the list.
The former Olympian was a guest on HBO's "Real Sports" on Tuesday when she talked about her "Best UFC fighter" tag from "Sports Illustrated" magazine. She admitted that the praise is welcome, and that it made her feel good about what she does.
"It makes me feel way better than if someone told me I was pretty," said Rousey. "If I was voted 'Sexiest Woman Alive,' it wouldn't make me nearly as happy."
The UFC champion jumped to the No. 2 spot -- after Jon "Bones" Jones -- when she had her second straight victory under 20 seconds, noted Sports Illustrated. She ascended to the No. 1 throne after UFC suspended Jones indefinitely, following felony charges when he fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident.
It is the first time the magazine has named a woman on top of the list and that made 'Rowdy' elated.
"There's a sexiest woman alive every year. Once in a blue moon you see a woman on top of the pound-for-pound list," she said.
While the fighter was clear that she does not necessarily strive to push forward feminism and the "betterment of women and society," she admits that she does her best to try where she can make a difference.
The magazine did not stop at naming her No. 1 on the pound-for-pound list. It continued by describing the former judoka as "not merely the most dominant fighter in MMA, she's the most dominant athlete in all of sports."
Even Business Insider seems to think so.
The website placed the 28-year-old fighter on top of 49 other athletes in its list of "The Most Dominant Athletes Alive" in 2015. She took over NBA superstars Stephen Curry and LeBron James. Rousey also went ahead of unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., who recently defeated Manny Pacquiao.
