When Zayn Malik decided to quit One Direction, fans were very quick to come up with speculations on particularly what compelled him to do so. Now, former band mate Liam Payne has finally set the record straight.

Apparently, Malik quit the band because he “wanted to spend time with his family and his missus.” There have been rumors pointing to this reason, but fans were went into a frenzy when Payne himself confirmed it during an interview with Capital FM. An excerpt of the interview is posted on Hollywood Life.

“We are just going to carry on doing what we are doing,” Payne added. “We wish him all the best with whatever he goes into and stuff. We will just have to see what happens.”

Payne then went on to say that despite Malik’s decision -- prioritizing Edwards before the band -- the rest of the band is actually “cool” with it. “Sometimes, you have to move on because you are not enjoying what you are doing as much as you used to,” he said.

Edwards did get a lot of backlash from One Direction fans, though. One fan wrote on Twitter, “Perrie is the modern day Yoko Ono. I cannot believe this.” Another posted, “Perrie Edwards is the Yoko Ono of One Direction.”

News that Malik quit the band to expedite his wedding date with Little Mix member Perrie Edwards have been making rounds on the Internet. However, a separate Hollywood Life report said Malik's sister told Now! Magazine that there is no truth to the rumors, adding that there have been no “wedding talks” yet.

“I would say there are a couple of years left until that,” revealed Doniya Malik. “We have not really spoken about it. Perrie is really nice."

Malik and Edwards have been engaged since August of 2013, notes E! Online. The two have been inseparable ever since Malik quit the band after major cheating allegations during the Thailand leg of the 1D tour. Despite spending a lot of their time together, however, it has been confirmed that they are not rushing to get married.

Last month, social media was abuzz with rumors that they have gotten married in secret. These rumors were sparked by Edwards’ best friend, Cara Swan. Swan was teasing that she had already attended their wedding.
