The executive producers behind NBC's "Grimm" opened up about how Nick will cope with losing both his mother and the love of his life when the series returns in the fall.

In the gripping Season 4 finale, Nick's girlfriend, Juliette, was killed in the final scene.

After an attack, Nick was just about to avenge his mother's murder by choking Juliette to death, which she begged him to do. However, convicted by his love for her, he couldn't find the strength to kill Juliette. That's when Trubel stepped in and fired two arrows into his girlfriend. Once she was shot, Nick cradled his former love in his arms while she died in their home.

During an interview with Zap2it, executive producer David Greenbalt explained that Juliette's shocking death was inevitable since she transformed into an evil and powerful Hexenbiest.

"She became such a threat," said Greenwalt, adding that her death was the "next logical beat" following her transition into a Hexenbiest. As a result, Trubel was forced to kill her in order to protect Nick.

Although "Grimm" has killed and then resurrected other regulars on the show, executive producer James Kouf confirmed to TVLine that "Juliette is dead."

"She's gone," Greenwalt added.

As a result, Greenwalt teased that Juliette's death will change the dynamic of the show in Season 5.

"It's going to change the show's course," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think it's going to be even darker still in a way. You know, it's not going to be the same Grimm."

In the meantime, Nick is going to have a hard time coping with all that he has lost.

"All the episodes are him, grieving. It's 12 episodes of him, alone in a room, feeling bad," teased Kouf.

Kouf explained that they choose to end Season 4 with a dramatic twist because "it keeps everyone on edge. You don't know what's going to happen."

Greenwalt added that "Anything could happen. It seems like a few shows, episode whatever, they get married or they finally get together. We decided to go a different way."

Now with the longtime girlfriend out of the picture, there may be a possibility that Nick will hook up with Adalind, who is carrying his child.

"Nick has to deal with an awful lot of stuff now, including it sure looks like Adalind is going to have his baby. ... He's got a child he's responsible for, so that's the conflict," said Greenwalt.
