Dr. Strange Casting Rumors: Martin Freeman & Chiwetel Ejiofor to Join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel Movie?
Marvel movies are all the rage these days. With the success of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and the arrival of "Ant-Man" in just a few weeks, any news on the studio's upcoming films brings about huge anticipation.
The upcoming "Dr. Strange" film is no exception. Since the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, there has been a lot of speculation over who else might make an appearance in the next big superhero movie from Marvel Studios.
Rumors point toward Martin Freeman reuniting with his "Sherlock Holmes" co-star for a bit part in the film. Freeman has already been hired by Marvel to appear in the forthcoming "Captain America: Civil War," but everyone knows that being in one Marvel movie opens the door for appearing in another.
Aside from his role as Doctor Watson to Cumberbatch's Holmes in the acclaimed BBC series, Freeman is best known for his work on Peter Jackson's recent "Hobbit" trilogy where he played the role of the iconic Bilbo Baggins.
"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," stated President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Aside from Freeman, former Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor is also rumored to appear on the film. His name is currently on the film's official IMDb page. While this does not guarantee an actor's involvement, it does add to a rumor that has been going around since January when many had Ejiofor involved in the project.
Ejiofor is best known for his work on Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" and Alfonso Cuaron's "Children of Men."
'Doctor Strange' hit the theaters on Nov. 4, 2016 and will be included as part of Marvel's Phase 3 movies.
