When will Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sail into theaters? The fifth entry, in the sixth most successful Hollywood franchise of all time, has hit a bit of a snag. Currently undergoing script rewrites the production of the film has been pushed back a year according to The Hollywood Reporter. Instead of a Summer 2015 release Pirates fans will need to wait until 2016. Luckily some plot details have been revealed.

Bleeding Cool confirmed the film's plot revolves around Captain Jack Sparrow and "The Trident." The supernatural powers of "The Trident" can be used for good and evil. It's capable of destroying anyone in its path. Sparrow needs to get to "The Trident" before his adversary Captain Brand grabs hold of it. Brand wants Sparrow dead because he thinks he is responsible for the death of his brother Eric. Ghosts and witches will also be a big part of the film.

Casting decisions have been making the rounds. First off you don't have to hold your breath; Johnny Depp is returning to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Keith Richards will also be make his third appearance as Captain Teague, Jack Sparrow's equally eccentric father, according to The Daily Mail. Richards, famous for his involvement with "The Rolling Stones" rock band, was personally approached by Depp to play the fan-favorite role of Teague again. Richards previously appeared in 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and its sequel 2011's On Stranger Tides.

Fellow Brit Rebecca Hall is a newcomer to the franchise. She is rumored to be playing a super smart and wickedly beautiful scientist named Carina Smyth. Two time Academy award winner Christoph Waltz is also on board. He's rumored to be playing the villainous Captain Brand. Waltz won his two Oscar's due to his performances in Quentin Tarantino directed film. The first win was for portraying an evil SS officer in Inglorius Basterds and for a bounty hunter in Django Unchained. Thanks, in large part, to these two performances he is one of Hollywood's leading character actors at the moment. Waltz's uncanny ability to adapt to adapt to any genre flawlessly means that he's a perfect fit for this Action-Adventure epic.

Will Sparrow be ready for another swashbuckling adventure or will he be too busy cavorting with prostitutes in Tortuga? Or perhaps he will be stranded on another desert island with nothing but a flask filled up with his favorite sweet nectar, rum? We'll just have to wait and see what the 'ole Captain has in store for us in 2016.

The film will be co-directed by longtime collaborators Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.
