Google might release two new Nexus smartphones this year, both smaller than the 6-inch Nexus 6, which would be made by different companies, CNet reports

A 5.2-inch display is planned from LG. The company is codenaming the project the LG Angler, according to Android Police. The larger of the two new phones, with a 5.7-inch display, would be made by Chinese company Huawei and codenamed Bullhead.

Android Police rate the rumor of the two new phones at a confidence level of 7 out of 10 and call their source reliable.

This would be the first time Google has released two Nexus phones in one year. Google might be trying to capture as many customer tastes as possible by introducing the various screen sizes. One phone will be more geared toward users who prefer a phablet-sized smartphone, and the other will be designed for those who want a smaller device.

The latest Nexus smartphone is very large, with the Nexus 6 having a 6-inch screen. Google could potentially be listening to customers who demand a smaller screen and a device that is easier to hold.

The details on the two new smartphones are limited, but some specifications are known. The LG Angler is set to be powered by a Qualcomm hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor and include a 2,700 mAh battery. This is the same processor used in the LG G4. The Huawei Bullhead is set to be powered by a Qualcomm 810 processor and include a large capacity 3,500 mAh battery. The large battery could be necessary due to the large screen and powerful processor.

Both phones are expected to come out in October since this is when Google usually releases new Nexus devices. The two phones could be announced as early as this Thursday at the Google I/O Conference.

There were no updates on any new Nexus tablets expected this year. If no update is made to the Nexus tablet, last year's Nexus 9 will remain as the current generation Google Nexus tablet.
