A reboot film for “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” has received a go-signal from 20th Century Fox. Sadly, no specific details have been provided regarding the upcoming project, but Deadline has confirmed that John Davis of “AVP: Alien vs. Predator” will be producing it.

“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” is a comic series that was created by Alan Moore. It talks about a group of famous literary figures who turn out to be pseudo-superheroes with strange abilities like Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Captain Nemo, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and Hawley Griffin. They all band together in order to fight the story’s villains, who are also famous literary figures themselves, such as Fu Manchu and Professor Moriarty.

The comic series was revered for being very creative and clever, but fans were dismayed with the lack-luster movie product that was released in 2003, starring Sean Connery. Sadly, the famous actor’s participation in the film was not able to help improve the movie’s ratings, which were backed up by a lot of negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Screen Rant reported that on the set of the first “The League of Extraordinary Gentleman,” Connery was not seeing eye to eye with the director, Stephen Norrington of “Blade.” Plus, the film was reportedly a very loose adaptation of the comic book source material, especially when Tom Sawyer and Dorian Gray were added to the characters, among others.

The changes and on-set tension may have been contributing factors to why the film fared so badly in the box office, having earned very little -- $179 million against a $78 million budget.

Surprisingly, the bad reviews and box office ratings did not deter Fox from trying to revive the series into a TV show a couple of years ago. Michael Green, the writer of “Green Lantern,” was on board for the show, while Erwin Stoff was going to be the executive producer. Its show runners may have come up with a pilot commitment, but Variety said the show was never "ordered to series."

Now, Fox has decided to take another swipe at “The League of Extraordinary Gentleman” franchise for a third time. With the movie reboot, fans are hopeful that its film makers will stick more closely to the source material.
