Breaking Bad Prequel 2014: Vince Gilligan Hopes Jonathan Banks, Aaron Paul Star in 'Better Call Saul!'
How could we possibly enjoy a Breaking Bad spinoff without seeing Jesse or Walt or even Mike?
The highly anticipated Better Call Saul show is likely coming to a screen near you at some point in 2014 as a prequel based on the corrupt yet entertaining attorney named Saul. The show is obviously going to focus on his wild career working with criminals in the time leading up to the Breaking Bad show, but creator Vince Gilligan knows that people want to see the other stars as well -- and he has a top choice.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly how many characters from Breaking Bad could pop up or even have an extended role in Better Call Saul, Gilligan said, "The character that springs to mind wild be Mike."
"That would be a great deal of fun," he said. "I would say the sky's the limit, at least theoretically speaking. Realistically speaking, we've got a whole lot of actors, and the world is now well-aware of their wonderful talents and abilities, and therefore Breaking Bad has probably made it tougher."
Gilligan elaborated upon the challenges that come with the effect that the increase in popularity has on his shows and characters. He also hinted within this that we could possibly see Aaron Paul (Jesse) make an appearance.
"They're off making big movies and doing Broadway plays and whatnot, and that's exactly the way it should be," he said. "That is a high-class problem that we will have to contend with as we go forward with Better Call Saul, if we do indeed want to touch base with some of these characters ... Better Call Saul could be The Love Boat of its generation, where instead of Milton Berle showing up in a sailor's cap, hopefully it could be Aaron Paul, also in a sailor's cap. [Laughs]"
