More casting news has emerged from the Star Wars Episode 7 annals: Kaley Cuoco, star of The Big Bang Theory, has auditioned for a coveted role in the film... sort of.

According to the Scum and Villany Star Wars blog (nice title, by the way), it's not Kaley herself who auditions for a role... it's her character, Penny, on The Big Bang Theory.

"In the upcoming episode of 'The Big Bang Theory', Penny is absolutely gutted after she has a part cut from an episode of NCIS. But Leonard tries to cheer her up with news of an audition for 'Star Wars VII'.

"'There's this thing online,' he explains. 'You put yourself on tape and just send it in. Anyone can do it.'

"Of course, Penny smells a rat and instantly assumes it's a PR stunt -- something that's crossed the minds of many 'Star Wars' fans since the open casting call was first announced. 'Even if it is,' he says, 'you have a huge advantage because you're an actual actress. Most of the people doing this are just weirdos and nerds. Wolowitz sent his in two days ago.'

"'Maybe it is a longshot, but sometimes longshots happen. Luke Skywalker was only given one chance to destroy the Death Star. He had to get a torpedo in an exhaust port that was only two meters wide, but with the help of The Force...wow, I can feel you hating me right now,'" reports the blog.

Meanwhile, on this Sunday's episode of The Simpsons, the first half of the episode was a very big spoof of Star Wars, called "Cosmic Wars." This isn't the first time that the cartoon parodied the franchise: in 2007, the Couch Gag featured the Simpsons family as different Star Wars characters, followed by the "Meet the Skywalkers" parody featured on The Simpsons in 2008.
