Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Releases for Moto X 2014 and Moto E LTE on U.S. Cellular
Motorola once again steps up at the front of the OEM pack by offering a big Lollipop update to the 2014 Moto X (second generation) and Moto E LTE -- rolling out an OTA Android 5.1 Lollipop update on U.S. Cellular now.
If you have a Moto X or another recent Motorola phone, you're probably aware of how quickly the erstwhile Google-owned company has been rolling out Android Lollipop updates to its handsets.
Now comes this update: Moto X 2014 smartphones and the Moto E LTE (also of the same generation) are getting Android 5.1 Lollipop in an OTA rollout nationwide through U.S. Cellular, according to Ubergizmo. Specifically, look for update version number LPE23.32-21 for the Moto X 2014 OTA update to Android Lollipop 5.1 and LPI23.29-15 for the Moto E LTE's OTA update version number.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade fixes some issues with contacts and phone apps, along with adding fluid animations for some quick settings like auto-rotate/portrait mode. For some devices, HD Voice and/or Dual SIM capabilities come with the update, but all devices including the Moto X and Moto E LTE will get some other tweaks -- not exactly bug fixes, but improvements to some overlooked, clunky UI elements -- that are quite welcome.
Chief among those are the WiFi and Bluetooth quick settings toggles, which are now mini-menus for switching between networks and BT devices much more quickly than having to go into the Settings app.
In the same vein, you can now adjust the Priority Interruptions system while you're playing media on your device -- something that, quite inconveniently, Google forced you to pause ongoing videos, music or podcasts in order to set in Android 5.0 Lollipop. Also, you can now set your "Priority" and "None" modes to end with your next alarm.
It's not the biggest update ever, and it's certainly less exciting than the first Lollipop 5.0 update that brought you Google's Material Design refresh -- but the little things still count. Check here for U.S. Cellular's software update support page for more information.
