Tracy Morgan opened up about the emotional and physical pain he has endured nearly one year after he was involved in a fatal car accident that left him in critical condition and killed his longtime friend.

The deadly crash occurred on June 7, 2014 when a speeding Walmart truck slammed into Morgan's Mercedes limousine, which was carrying him and four others on the New Jersey Turnpike. Comedian James "Uncle Jimmy Mack" McNair died in the collision, while the other passengers were seriously injured, CNN reported.

The 46-year-old "30 Rock" star suffered from broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken femur and a broken leg in the accident. He was hospitalized for two weeks, and then he spent three weeks recovering in a rehabilitation center. He also spent several weeks undergoing intensive outpatient treatment.

Last week, Morgan and Walmart announced they had reached a settlement, reports USA Today.

While speaking to NBC's Today show host Matt Lauer on Monday, Morgan thanked Walmart for taking responsibility for the accident, but said that the pain of losing his good friend "will never heal."

"The case is settled, but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mac," Morgan said in his first interview since the car crash. "Bones heal, but the loss of my friend will never heal."

Morgan went on to talk about his physical health, and admitted that he doesn't remember the accident.

"There are times where I have my good day and my bad days, where I forget things," he said. "There are times where I get the headaches, and the nose bleeds. I won't even let my lady know because I don't want her to be worried about it."

Morgan repeatedly thanked the medical staff who helped him through his recovery, along with his family, staff and friends like fellow "30 Rock" star Tina Fey.

"I've been down. They keep my spirits up," he said.

However, Morgan got chocked up when talking about his friend's death.

"He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy. He was a loving man, and he was a warm man. He was a good man. It's just hard for me to see that he's gone."
