Production for Jason Momoa-starrer "Aquaman" is gaining steam, now that Warner Bros. Pictures has finally closed in on a director to make the movie.

The studio's President for Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman announced that director James Wan will be helming the movie adaptation of the DC Comics original.

"The 'Aquaman' film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James's span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material," said Silverman in a statement.

The director, who became a household name with the success of "Fast and The Furious 7," has previously worked with Warner Bros. Picture in the horror film, "The Conjuring."

Before Wan was selected, other directors were linked to the project. An article posted on the Latino Review in January, mentioned that "MUD" director Jeff Nichols and "300: Rise of an Empire" Noam Murro.

Introducing Aquaman to DC live-action films

In 2014, it was confirmed that Momoa will play the role of the sea-dwelling superhero after much speculation.

The former "Game of Thrones" actor's character will be introduced in the upcoming "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, and the film will come out on March 25, 2016, reported Hitflix.

Meanwhile, "Aquaman" is scheduled to come out in 2018. It is expected that Momoa will also appear in two "Justice League" films, which will come out in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Producer Charles Roven is positive that Wan and Momoa's team-up will be a great thing for the movie.

"James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen," said Rovan in Warner Bros. Pictures' press release. "And Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention. Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film."

No other name has been attached to the project yet but it was initially reported that Karl Urban is being eyed by Warner Bros. Pictures for a role in the movie. Latino Review speculated that the "Star Trek 3" actor might be lined up to play the main antagonist in the flick.

Warner Bros. has yet to confirm the reports on Urban's involvement with the movie.

"Aquaman" will hit theaters in November 2018.
