Apple Watch: Device Will Be Available for Purchase Within Two Weeks, Seven More Countries Will Offer Watch
At first, it was very hard to purchase an Apple Watch unless customers pre-ordered the device. But within the next two weeks, the Apple Watch will finally arrive at the Apple Store, allowing customers to walk in and purchase one, CNET reports.
Apple announced Thursday that the watch will finally be stocked in Apple Stores soon. For months, customers wondered when, if ever, an Apple Watch could be purchased without a pre-order.
Apple also announced that it would be expanding the Apple Watch's availability to seven more countries, including South Korea and Mexico, beginning June 26.
For customers who have already pre-ordered the watch and are still waiting, Apple said they would be receiving their devices "within two weeks."
The 42mm Space Black Stainless Steel with Space Black Link Bracelet Apple Watch model is the only device that is experiencing some shipping delays, according to Jeff Williams, Apple's senior vice president of operations. Williams did not elaborate on how long the delay would last, but if customers try to order one now, they will have to wait five to six weeks for it to arrive, according to the Apple online store.
The Apple Watch is available in three different models, the low-cost Apple Watch Sport for $349, the Apple Watch starts at $549 and the Apple Watch Edition can cost up to $17,000, according to Tech Radar. The Apple Watch requires an iPhone 5 or newer to operate most of its apps.
Apple first announced the Apple Watch in September 2014 and began selling it in April. Apple has competitors with similar smartwatches, but the Apple Watch has generated a ton of interest.
"Apple Watch has attracted a lot of attention from consumers," IHS director of analysis and research Hiroshi Hayase said in a statement Monday.
The Apple Watch was originally available by pre-order only. Those pre-orders quickly sold out and pushed back many shipments until June. Most customers, except for the few that ordered their devices very early, did not receive the Apple Watch on launch day.
Since April, the device was only available if customers put their orders in online. Thursday's announcement finally gives the opportunity for in-store customers to buy the Apple Watch.
