Good news await Sony Xperia users as the Japanese tech company has recently announced that Google's latest Android update, Android Lollipop 5.1 is coming to their devices.

In March, many Sony Xperia users were disappointed to learn that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will only be available to the Xperia Z series. Those who purchased the lower-end devices of M, E and T series were excluded from receiving the update.

The company took to Twitter to reply to a user's query regarding Android 5.0 to other gadgets.

"@_OzzySanttana Hi Ozzy. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is only going to be available to the Xperia Z series. We do apologise," the post read.

The news angered many fans and users of the devices at that time as the latest OS update from Google brought with it numerous features that they could well benefit from.

Android 5.0 Lollipop began rolling to the Z series in March and those who are using other Sony devices were left in the dark if they will ever receive an upgrade for their units.

Fortunately, the company seemed to have turned things around and is now offering the latest version of Android to their users.

According to a blog post on Sony Mobile's official website, Android 5.1 will be made available to the Sony Xperia Z series of mobile phones and gadgets as well as other lower end units.

The update will be available to the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z1S, Z Ultra, Z Ultra GPE, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z3, Z3v, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact.

But other than that, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 will also be able to download and install the latest Android offering from Google.

Sony further added that even the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua will also have the option to upgrade to Android 5.1.

Android 5.1 Lollipop will roll out to Sony devices beginning July, but the Z series will have the first priority while the other units will follow after.

No exact date in July has been given but updates will differ per carrier network.

According to XDA Developers, the Zperia M4, E4 and C4 are also lined up to receive the update but reports have said that it might reach the devices in August.

Meanwhile, the Lollipop update is rumored to skip Xperia E3 and T3 and will maintain the Android 4.4 Kitkat version.
