'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers: Evilest Villains on the Horizon For Castle and Beckett
The eighth and perhaps final season of "Castle" is already being billed as something that's going to be "different."
Costars Richard Castle and Det. Kate Beckett could find themselves pitted against a new and, perhaps, the evilest villains they have ever encountered.
According to CarterMatt, new show runners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are looking forward to having the chance to "put a creative stamp" on the show and that could be one of the approaches they decide to take.
The website previously speculated that the new season could also find Beckett cast as a political candidate running for office. The end of Season 7 touched on such possibilities with a colleague passionately encouraging her to go in that direction.
On top of having a strong voice, CarterMatt goes on to describe Stana Katic's character as "determined and solutions-oriented" on the surface, which is all the makings for someone who could successfully become a politician.
After months of contract haggling and growing speculation, Katic recently agreed to return to the show alongside Nathan Fillion, who plays Castle. Both stars' contracts ended at the close of last season.
At one point late last year, Katic told TVLine that it might be time for her to consider other opportunities.
"If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top," she said. "[F]or me it's about art over finance, and as long as we're creating something that is compelling and that has somewhere to go, then we're good to go. And when we find that we're not ... then it's time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing."
The last several months have marked a season of change for Katic, who Us Weekly reports married longtime boyfriend Kris Brkljac before family and friends in late April.
