Whitney Houston was allegedly once the target of a $250,000 extortion scheme at the hands of a Chicago attorney who threatened to reveal information of her involvement in a lesbian affair if she did not pay up.

Such shocking allegations are partly the subject of a new book, "Whitney & Bobbi Kristina: The Deadly Price of Fame." Author Ian Halperin wrote the novel, which claims the incident took place in 1992, just before the release of Houston's smash hit film, "The Bodyguard," alongside Kevin Costner.

The New York Post reports Halperin gleamed much of that information from heavily redacted FBI files, though it is clear the woman in question and alleged to be in a relationship with Whitney was longtime friend and personal assistant Robyn Crawford.

The lawyer later told an FBI agent that the information he was privy to included "knowledge of intimate details regarding Whitney Houston's romantic relationships."

At some point, Whitney's father, John Houston, is alleged to have "settled the matter by sending a confidentiality agreement almost immediately." It's unclear how much John Houston may have agreed to pay off the blackmailer, or if he met the initial demand price of $250,000.

Later that year, Whitney married Bobby Brown, and the two later conceived Bobbi Kristina together. On the day of the wedding, Halperin alleges the bride gave Crawford a black Porsche "as a token of their friendship."

Halperin goes on to quote former Whitney's bodyguard, Kevin Ammons. He alleges John remained unhappy with and leery of Crawford, who he feared might go public with news of her supposed relationship with his daughter.

"We've got to do something about that motherf*****g b***h," Ammons alleges John once told him. "She's ruining my family and driving everybody nuts. She's lost her grip on reality. I'll pay you $6,000 if you put the fear of God in her."

Whitney died in 2012 after she was found face down in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel, where she was staying. Authorities have since revealed she had drugs in her system at the time of her death.

Almost three years later, Bobbi Kristina was also discovered face down in a bathtub of cold water at the Georgia home she shared with boyfriend Nick Gordon. She remains unresponsive and largely in a medically induced coma and is being cared for at a long-term rehab facility.

In the book, Halperin offers a theory on what may happened to the 22-year-old, whom grandmother Cissy Houston recently shared suffered "irreversible brain damage."

Even though drug use has not been officially confirmed as a potential factor, one source allegedly told the writer, "She probably took the plunge. He told me that when somebody 'drops' there are all kinds of ways to revive them. 'I've never seen it done in a bath,' he said to me, 'but I sort of helped bring somebody around with a cold shower. You stick them under the cold water and you slap them to bring them around.'"

Halperin noted if such tactics were applied it could explain the "facial bruises that paramedics reportedly found" on Brown's body.

TMZ previously reported investigators have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding Bobbi Kristina's condition and all the unexplained injuries to her body. Reportedly, Gordon is the primary target of the probe.
