'Chasing Life' Spoilers & News: Season 2 Premiere Pushed Back, What Will April and Leo Do?
The Season 2 premiere of the ABC Family drama "Chasing Life" has been moved up by more than a month and will now be telecast on July 6.
Variety reports the network has squashed its initial Aug. 17 air date for the show and now plans to feature it as part of its "drama-heavy Monday night" summer schedule along with "The Fosters" and the new trans-gender docuseries "Becoming Us."
Another factor for the network could be the fact that last season's show was forced to compete with the CW's "Jane the Virgin" for its young, female audience. With the new premiere date and time slot, the two shows will no longer go head to head.
Series star Italia Ricci heralded the change on her Instagram page, posting, "Premiere Update?!! New season now starts Monday July 6 at 10/9c!!! Who. Is. Pumped?"
The new season of "Chasing Life" is expected to bring about much change on the heels of the first year ending with April (Ricci) agreeing to wed Leo (Scott Michael Foster) while still hospitalized battling the cancer that returned at the end of the season.
Her recurring condition also caused her to walk away from her job as a newspaper reporter.
Show executive producer Patrick Sean Smith previously hinted to TVLine that in choosing to bring April and Leo closer together the series' creators showed how open they are to venturing into new surroundings.
"An element of the show we're going to explore more in the second season is "all bets are off," he said. "What a normal character would typically do on a traditional TV series is the opposite of what April Carver can do because of her cancer. So the idea of accepting a marriage proposal in the heat of the moment felt right to her, deciding she has to give up her career to see what happens next felt right to her."
Ricci, who recently attended a Ted Baker event, recently retweeted an image that excitedly said that fans helped the show make it the fifth best of the year.
