NFL linebacker Brandon Spikes has been cut from the New England Patriots' roster.

The Patriots' decision to release Spikes from the team came on Monday, a day after a report of the linebacker's involvement in a car incident, reports ESPN.com.

However, even with no charges officially handed to Spikes, the Patriots already made the decision on their end regarding Spikes' stay with the team. The team who re-signed the 6-foot-2, 255-pounder player who played with them from 2010 to 2013 took no time to arrive at its move.

The official Twitter account of the Patriots carried out the following message regarding the release:

With a one-year deal worth up to $2 million signed on May 16, the team's decision can be regarded as a wise one. First, it only involves a very small amount of $25,000 -- the guarantee for a signing bonus. Second, when the investigation wraps up and more circumstantial evidences arise, sooner or later, charges will then come with further complications being a team with a player involved in such issues.

The police said that they responded to a report of a Mercedes being found in the median strip at 3:30 a.m. this Sunday, June 7. They were also informed by OnStar on-board navigation system personnel that the car driver actually hit a deer. The police officers who arrived at the specific location of the incident were not not able to see the driver inside or near the involved car. The deer was also nowhere to be found.

However, the police saw an abandoned 2011 model of a Mercedes on the site, I-495 in Foxborough, Massachusetts last Sunday, citing Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio. The said car had a damaged front end, ESPN site noted. The luxury sedan was also confirmed to be registered under the 27-year-old veteran linebacker, Spikes, who played for five seasons in the league.

Procopio also added that shortly after the Mercedes report, the police got another one involving a 2009 Nissan Murano. The said vehicle was also found on the same strip the Mercedes was found. The Nissan's occupants who called in stated that they were hit on the rear-ended by a vehicle they failed to see. A 911 caller stated that a "vehicle had struck another vehicle and the operator fled." The call registered at 3:39 a.m. this Sunday.

No charges yet were filed or given to Spikes as the police officers are still investigating if the two incidents, involving the deer and the Nissan Murano are related.

Spikes, who was picked in 2010 by the Patriots, played 66 games in his five seasons, having 340 total tackles, two sacks, six forced fumbles and two interceptions to his name.
