Wednesday’s Powerball is here, and since no one won the grand prize on Saturday -- when the winning numbers were: 8, 13, 18, 27 and 43; the Powerball was 15 -- all that money has rolled over and is now at $50 million.

There were 395,947 regular winners and $4,377,514 in non-jackpot money was awarded.

There are actually nine ways to win at Powerball. Players have a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance of winning the grand prize, and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 in winning $1,000,000.

So the chances of winning are pretty slim but people do win, sometimes a whole group of them at the same time.

Last Wednesday, 10 people that work at the Carpet Discount Warehouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, won $1 million. For two years, each participant had been putting in $12 every week toward the twice-a-week drawings.

Charles Rush, the 77-year-old owner of the warehouse who had been running the lottery pool spoke about the experience.

“That $12 a week doesn’t hurt anybody,” Rush said.

And in the end it really paid off as each of the participants will get to take home $69,250 after taxes.

As reported by the Charlotte Observer, Rush actually has a secret system for playing the numbers, and so does not seem all that enthused about the lottery win, saying that he had been been more excited when he first shot a 9-foot Alaska brown bear back in 2008.

For Rush, this win is all part of larger winning strategy. The man already once won a small lottery, and categorized the $1 million win as medium-sized reward before winning “the big one.”
