“Pitch Perfect 3” is going to happen and it has already found an official writer to pen its screenplay.

Kay Cannon has been selected to write the third installment, now that Gold Circle and Universal has finally given the film a green light, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cannon wrote the first two movies of the franchise.

According to Box Office Mojo, “Pitch Perfect 2” was able to reel in, so far, domestic box office earnings of $161.8 million, which prompted the film makers to start planning for the third film.

Unfortunately, it remains unclear whether the film’s ensemble cast will be returning for the third movie. Elizabeth Banks has not yet confirmed her return to reprise her role as the movie director. However, she did admit then that they were already “thinking about it.”

“Of course, we are at the very beginning of that process,” Banks told Access Hollywood.

Anna Kendrick, who plays the lead role of Becca, has also not yet confirmed whether she will be part of “Pitch Perfect 3.” Although it is highly possible that she will be returning to reprise the franchise’s lead character, she told Time Magazine that she's “not one to count my chickens.”

“I just want to see how this one does and find out if there is an appetite for that before I even think about it,” Kendrick shared.

Her co-star, Rebel Wilson, who plays Fat Amy, apparently, does not share the same sentiments. She has already told the public that she is very interested to be Fat Amy once again. “All the Bellas are coming together, becoming a legit singing group out of college,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I also think a Fat Amy origin story would be awesome!”

On April 10, L.A. Times' Amy Kaufman announced that Wilson's participation in the film is already sealed.

The storyline for “Pitch Perfect 3” will most likely feature the Barden Bellas after they have graduated from college. That said, the third film would be absolutely better if the franchise’s regular cast members would return to the screen, with the addition of new characters, of course.
