"Empire" star Terrence Howard is accusing his ex-wife of trying to bully a witness in her effort to cover up an alleged extortion plot aimed at squeezing him for more of his growing fortune.

According to TMZ, Howard's lead attorney, Brian Kramer, recently filed legal documents in which he asserts Michelle Ghent set out to "strong-arm" the wife of the actor's brother to carry out her twisted plot.

The website adds Ghent once told Yvonne Howard she planned to scare Howard into submitting to her demands by threatening him with taunts of going public "about sexual trysts and other lurid info."

Later, when his ex-wife discovered Howard was on his witness list, the "Hustle & Flow" actor claims she went to her former sister-in-law and desperately tried to "dissuade her from taking the stand or being deposed."

The ongoing proceeding are part of Howard's effort to set aside a recent settlement agreement that paves the way for Ghent to receive a sizable portion of his salary for his role on "Empire" next season. Howard stars as Lucious Lyon alongside Taraji P. Henson in the Fox Network high-powered drama.

Earlier this year, Howard contacted Los Angeles police to allege he was receiving death threats from his ex.

According to the website, in one threat Howard received on Instagram someone said they were coming from him.

"I'm watching you! I'm coming for ... LOL. You two won't live to see your children," the person wrote.

The "you two" are presumed to refer to Howard and his then new wife.

In another taunt, someone warns the new wife that the actor is not faithful.

"Your husband is cheating on you! Just thought you should know," the message, which featured a picture of Howard and another woman, said.

TMZ notes the Instagram accounts where the messages were sent from have no followers other Ghent, who claims she has talked to police and is no longer considered a suspect.
