'Doom' Reboot Release Date & Gameplay: Multiplayer, SnapMap Details Revealed in New Trailer
A new "DOOM" promises to be one of the best titles the company will ever release. Bethesda Softworks has unveiled the video game's first gameplay trailer and upcoming features during its very own E3 press conference held on June 14.
According to game developer id Software, the reboot version of the 1993 original will feature not only single and multiplayer versions but will also have the new "DOOM SnapMap" for players to come up with their own maps to explore.
Id Software Executive producer Marty Stratton treated the audience to a demonstration of how the SnapMap works, reported Game Rant. The feature is made to allow new adventures and environments for a longer gameplay.
Simply put, the SnapMap is a map creator that will allow players to come up with more sections by "snapping" together original hallways and rooms to build a new one. The feature will be made available to the PC and console versions of the new title.
Aside from the architecture of the new map, SnapMap also allows the players to include a demon in that area for added challenge.
The map creator will not only add a new environment to the game but will also include a different kind of game logic that will run on different modes. This ensures that new gameplays are developed every time.
Meanwhile, the single player campaign is not lacking in challenges as seen from the gameplay trailer showcased at the E3 press conference. It showed more advanced weapons, moves and is very graphic in its brutality, noted Polygon.
The trailer also showed weapons that will be available on the title. A heavy assault rifle, plasma rifle, shotgun and chainsaw are just among those glimpsed at the video.
Meanwhile, the multiplayer campaign will have three modes to choose from. Bethesda enumerated these as Clan Area, Domination and Freeze Tag. However, the publisher dished out no more details on this mode other than, "Skill, fast vertical movement and very unique powereups" will be needed, said PC Gamer.
Other coop modes will also be available, including a modified version of the popular Gears of Wars' "hoard mode."
Id Software's DOOM will be available to the current generation consoles of Sony and Microsoft. A PC version will also be released in Spring 2016.
