Apple could release an extra-large screened iPad, possibly called the iPad Pro, later this year. The tablet is expected to have a large screen, measuring almost 13 inches, CNET reports

Apple has recently introduced Force Touch, a pressure-sensitive detection technology that responds to the amount of pressure placed by the user to perform different functions. Apple has also continued to make updates and improvements to its Apple Pay service. Both Force Touch and Apple Pay could be used by the next iPad.

There were thoughts that Apple would announce a new iPad at their recent Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC), but nothing was announced. Apple would likely follow its introduction schedule of announcing an iPad in October or November. That follows the usual annual announcement of a new iPhone in September. If the larger iPad is introduced this fall, it would likely be joined by the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Mini 4.

The new, larger iPad is expected to have a 12.9-inch screen. This is much larger than the 7.9-inch Mini 3 and the 9.7-inch Air 2. The larger iPad is not expected to be thinner than the iPad Air 2, which measures at just 6.1 millimeters.

New colors could be included in this new iPad. Typically, iPads are only offered in gold, silver and space gray. A rose gold color and others could be added.

The next iPads will be pre-loaded with iOS 9 which will come out this fall as well. iOS 9 is introducing a new split-screen view for the iPad. This means that users will be able to open and use two apps at once and operate them at the same time in split-screen mode. This feature could make it into the large-screen iPad.

With Apple Pay, near field communication (NFC) is the way that the iPhone 6 uses its tap-to-pay services. The iPad lacks NFC and this means that iPad owners cannot use tap-to-pay. The next iPad could support NFC, and that would make it fully compatible with Apple Pay.

Another possibility for the next iPad is a stylus, likely called the iPen. Although Apple has avoided using a stylus in the past, Tech Radar reports that an upcoming iPad will use one.
