Brittney Griner & Glory Johnson Breakup News: Johnson Still Committed to Going Through With Pregnancy
WNBA All-Star forward Glory Johnson is remaining steadfast in her vow to go through with her pregnancy, despite her split from fellow league star Brittney Griner.
In a statement released on Friday, Johnson revealed plans to remain in Tulsa, where she stars for the Shock.
"I am truly saddened by the recent turn of events and was not expecting to have our marriage end so abruptly," she said.
According to The Associated Press, Griner filed to annul their marriage earlier this month after being married for 28 days. News of the split came just a day after Johnson announced to the world they were expecting. In the event the annulment is not granted for any reason, Griner has stipulated that formal divorce proceedings immediately be started.
In the days since the filing became public, the Phoenix Mercury star center has strongly hinted that she feels she's been greatly deceived by her soon-to-be ex.
"Glory and I agreed to either legally separate, get divorced or annul our marriage. I can confirm that today I filed for an annulment," Griner said. "In the week prior to the wedding, I attempted to postpone the wedding several times until I completed counseling, but I still went through with it. I now realize that was a mistake."
Throughout her statement, Johnson also sought to put an end to some of what must seem like all the endless rumors.
"At no stage was Brittney pressured to undertake the fertility process," she said in her statement, directly opposing Griner's earlier stance that she did not know how long Johnson had been pregnant.
She labeled Griner "a willing participant" throughout the process and noted she signed off on all the legal documents "that needed to be signed in order to move forward with the treatments."
ESPN previously reported that just days before the two were married, both Johnson and Griner were arrested at their home in Phoenix following a domestic altercation. Both are currently suspended by the WNBA for the first seven games of this season.
