It's been less than two months since The Barden Bellas triumphed over Das Sound Machine in "Pitch Perfect 2" and talks of a third film have already gone abuzz. Now, it has been confirmed that "Pitch Perfect 3" is happening and two of the major stars from the previous movies are already signed up to return.

Anna Kendrick took to social networking site Instagram to announce the good news that the third film has been given the green light. The 29-year-old posted a photo of her winking while holding three fingers up. She captioned the image with "Happening #3."

Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson confirmed the news on her Twitter account. The Australian actress tweeted, "I know I spilt the beans a little while ago, but at least now it's OFFICIAL!! PITCH PERFECT 3, July 21, 2017!!! Sing 'ahhhhh' on 3 pitches x'

A third film seems to be the best move considering the sequel reportedly grossed $259.7 million in the box office worldwide, noted The Hollywood Reporter. Its earnings were more than double what the first film had when it came out in 2012.

While both Kendrick and Wilson have been confirmed for the third movie, no word has been made regarding the status of Anna Camp and Brittany Snow, both of whom were part of the first two films as two of the original Barden Bellas.

In an interview with Entertainment Today during the movie's premiere in May, both Camp and Snow admitted that they do not know if a third film will be in development. However, they both expressed their willingness to be part of the movie, should it happen.

Hailee Steinfeld, who was introduced as the newest member of the Barden Bellas in the last film, is also unconfirmed to return for the next movie, although a lot of fans have expressed their desire to see her once again in the next film.

Elizabeth Banks will return to produce the film alongside Paul Brooks and Max Handelman. It is not yet confirmed if Banks, who directed the second film, will return to the directorial chair.

No word has also been made if the actress will be back to reprise her role as Gail, the podcaster for the a cappella competitions the Barden Bellas have joined.

Kay Cannon, who wrote the two movies, will come back to pen the third film, reported Cinema Blend.

The plot of the upcoming third movie is still unclear at this point but with Kendrick and Wilson returning, it would seem that their previous story arcs would be continued in the third film.

"Pitch Perfect 3" will debut in theaters on July 21, 2017.
