‘The Last Ship’ Season 2 Spoilers: Fractured But Functional Naval Team Will Face Bigger Antagonists
Season 2 of TNT's "The Last Ship" is set to premiere Sunday at 8 p.m. with back-to-back episodes titled "Unreal City" and "Fight the Ship," according to TV Guide.
The season picks up with the original naval team, fractured but still functional, joining up with an underground resistance that may be able to help them fight off the swarms of immunes that have betrayed them.
This lends credence to how the season is likely to play out, with the threat of the virus spreading before they can get a cure to the people that need it and their efforts thwarted by a coalition of immunes who have vowed to weed out the weak and start the new civilization with people that can make a difference without disease vulnerabilities.
The cure has run low for Rachel as well, who is imprisoned and still trying to help the sick.
The season is going to focus more on the political dangers of a post-apocalyptic world, where factions are vying for control. All the while, the viral epidemic is still very present and poses a threat to everyone.
According to CarterMatt, the season is going to be all about getting bigger and expanding the storyline with new character arcs that face different foes.
Series star Eric Dane addressed a Reddit AMA on Monday that gave viewers some insight about Season 2.
"The second season is a lot bigger. There's 3 more episodes -- it's 13 episodes this season -- the antagonists are greater, the scope of the project is bigger, the writers have found their groove, the other actors have found a real rhythm, the characters are developing nicely and organically," Dane said.
"And there's a lot of comfort in the work. And I think that translates into an effortless viewing experience."
