Under the Dome Season 2 Premiere: Stephen King Gives Fresh Ideas, New Characters to Come
Who knows what CBS executives thought they had with Under the Dome. While the show didn't exactly fly under the radar, it was surprising how colossal of a hit it became. One thing that undoubtedly helped Under the Dome succeed was its inferior summertime competitors. However, the Stephen King adaptation had a splendid cast, a really good storyline and more twists than a twizzler. The show returns for a second season on Jun. 30, 2014 for another 13 episode run.
If you're not familiar with Under the Dome, read ahead. A mystery literally surrounds the small town of Chester's Mill. An impenetrable dome cuts off the town's residents from the outside world. The military tries to help break down the voluminous, clear structure but every tactic they use fails, including a missile strike. Water, however, can pass through which is helpful as the town's lone water supply is contaminated due to a methane gas leak. The darn dome causes more problems than the residents of Chester's Mill would like and quickly people start to go stir crazy. The town breaks up into two factions -- one led by Big Jim Rennie (Dean Norris) and another by a farmer whose land sits upon valuable resources.
While the summer is still a long ways away, there's plenty of questions viewers would like answered about Under the Dome. Hopefully in season 2 some of the following questions will be answered, like: just who made the dome; why did it choose to erect itself around an ordinary town in Middle America; and just when will it go away? Also, two characters, Norrie and Joe, have random seizures when they touch each other. Like all Stephen King adaptations, the characters are really relatable. These are just ordinary people stuck in an extraordinary situation.
So what can fans expect from the second season? Well, the legend himself is writing the premiere episode, according to Zap2it!
"The second season is going to take us places the book never got to go, he's bringing his own twists and turns," says Brian K. Vaughn. "Stephen King gave us ideas we've never imagined. What's outside [the dome] comes inside."
"No one is safe in this town," executive producer Neal Baer says.
New characters will enter the fold, including someone "who's been hiding out for reasons we find out," and a school teacher who will instruct kids on "how to arm and keep Chester's Mill running." It's said this character will probably be Big Jim's main rival.
