Chris Rock strongly considered replacing Jon Stewart as head of "The Daily Show" after the only permanent host the show has ever known walks away later this summer.

The New York Times reports that after being contacted by Comedy Central Network officials, Rock entertained the idea, but he was only willing to commit to the program through the November 2016 presidential election season.

In the end, network officials settled on relative unknown Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old longtime favorite of Stewart's who also quickly won over network execs. Stewart's official last day is Aug. 6 and Noah is slated to formally began hosting on Sept. 28.

The 50-year-old comedian may have been able to use the added distraction. The "Top 5" actor and his wife of 19 years are in the midst of what could become a messy divorce, given that she is rumored to be seeking roughly half of his estimated $70 million fortune.

In court documents attorneys for Malaak Compton-Rock argue she deserves a settlement "commensurate with the marital standard of living" she has come to know. The couple once had a prenuptial agreement in place, but both sides agree the terms of it has expired, according to the Washington Post.

The two have two young daughters and Malaak spends much of time working with various charities. The pair has agreed to share custody for their children, and Chris recently admitted he worries about the impact the divorce might have on his daughters.

"Can I keep it going and raise healthy daughters who don't have daddy issues because I'm gone all the time?" he said. "So who the hell knows what's next. I'm doing OK. You know, some days are better than others, some days you're sad outta your f***ing mind. But my daughters are good and I'm only an hour away. Two houses close by. It's good."
