The Moto X and Moto X 2nd Generation are both getting Android 5.1 across several different world markets in the next week, signaling that U.S. users of the original Moto X (2013) might have to wait too long to finally get Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Android 5.1 Lollipop has already arrived on the Moto X (2013) and the Moto X (2014) across different markets in Europe, parts of the Middle East, and some Asian markets for "soak tests" -- extended tests under real-world conditions to search for any outstanding bugs -- according to Motorola's David Schuster (via PhoneArena) on Google+ this week.

The tests have begun in places like Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore for the Moto X (2013), while the second generation Moto X has begun testing in parts of Scandinavia, Hong Kong and elsewhere.

If you've been following this thread, while the newer second-gen Moto X (2014) has already been updated to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for quite a while -- Motorola was waiting to leap frog the Moto X (2013) past the buggy (and simply unpolished) Android 5.0 Lollipop and update them straight to Android 5.1.

Testing in these markets means that the original Moto X is one step closer to getting Android 5.1 Lollipop, though a wait for particular carriers to do their own tests may be expected as well.

In any case, it spells good news not only for owners of the now-discounted $300 Moto X (2014), but those who bought the original Moto X in 2013 and were wondering when -- if ever -- they'd get their Lollipop.
