“Dark Places” has just released its new U.S. trailer and it looks to be the gritty thriller that it has promised.

The upcoming film is actually based on the bestselling novel of “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn and has already been slated for an official release date in August.

However, Variety reported that since A24 and DirecTV have jointly acquired the rights to the movie, which stars Corey Stoll, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, and Charlize Theron, the film is now available on DirecTV Cinema until August 6. Meanwhile, the movie will begin its theatrical launch the very next day, August 7.

With its ensemble cast, “Dark Places” is expected to be an impressive late summer thriller, especially with the likes of Gilles Paquet Brenner of “Walled In” as its writer and director.

The producers are Beth Kono, AJ Dix, Stephane Marsil, Cathy Schulman, Azim Bolkiah, Matthew Rhodes, Matt Jackson, and Theron, herself. Meanwhile, the executive producers are going to be Matthias Ehrenberg, Guy East, Jeff Rice, Nigel Sinclair, Jose Levy, Peter Safran, Tobin Armburst, Ginger Sledge, and Jillian Longnecker.

As stated in the film’s IMDB page, “Dark Places” is about a grown woman forced to face the terrifying events that she had once survived as a child. Libby, played by Theron, was only an 8-year-old child when she survived the killing of her family. She testified against her brother, saying that he was the one who murdered their mother and two sisters.

Now, a secret society that is obsessed with solving heinous crimes will stop at nothing until Libby finally succumbs to their demands. Getting deeper into the society, she starts to question what she witnessed the night of the crime as she realized that many people actually believed that her brother was not behind the killings.

Hoult’s character, Lyle, is a member of the club. He decides to help in Libby’s investigation to find out whether or not her brother was really guilty or not.

The video clip has actually only given a very small portion of the film’s entire storyline. It did, however, clearly capitalize on two of the movie’s most significant members of the cast, considering that Theron and Hoult co-starred in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which reeled in more than $44 million during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
