"The Last Man on Earth" was the unlikely post-apocalyptic sitcom that really reached epic levels of comedy, thanks in part to the show's two main leads, Will Forte and Kristen Schaal.

But what is from episode to episode a laugh-a-minute comedy has actually become the spotlight for one of Hollywood's hardest working comedians.

Schaal, who has been in all kinds of TV shows, including "Flight of the Conchords," really put her comedic chops to good use, playing opposite Will Forte in one of TV's most admirable pairings. They are really able to play off each other, and neither one is able to out do the other.

Schaal recently sat down with the The Wrap and gave a little insight into her role on the series and the progression it is taking.

"There are moments of humanity in there that are really important and special that you don't always get to see in a comedy. You're sort of double-fisting with humor and humanity," Schaal said.

She also sees her role on the show as a great way to spend her time.

"This is so cheesy but just driving to work knowing I was going to this job was already fun -- no matter what the hour."

But for people who still haven't seen the show, there is something unique that they're missing, according to the actress. It's a comedy like no other because it takes a traditionally dramatic situation and turns it on its head.

"The thing that is so wonderful about this show is that it's never not funny. [It] always delivers, and that's something to tune in to for sure," she said.

The Emmy contender also dished about the shows she enjoys watching, which she watches on "appointment" as opposed to binge or nonlinear viewing.

"I do appointment view. Like 'Game of Thrones,' I watched it on the day. You have to because you can't look at the Internet otherwise," Schaal said.

Season 2 of "Last Man on Earth" was given an early renewal on Fox, Deadline reported.
