With rumors about a possible Obi-Wan spinoff surfacing, Ewan McGregor reported that he wants to return to the iconic character.

It had previously been rumored that the actor was in negotiations with Disney to play the character in three films. However, the news was never confirmed. McGregor is now adamant about his desires to play Obi-Wan in a standalone film.

During an interview at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the actor said, "I'd be happy to do the story from episodes three where I finish up and Alec Guinness [who played the older Kenobi in the original Star Wars movies] starts."

The actor add that "Star Wars" has always had a special place in his life as it was the movie that made him want to be an actor. It was also the movie that his uncle Denis Lawson starred in.

He said, "I remember going to see him in 'Star Wars' in my shorts and red socks when my mum picked us up from school. I was six and it blew my brains out and that was it. I remember saying of Denis when I was nine I want to be an actor."

McGregor also noted that he is excited for the new film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." He said, "It's not a fanatical thing. I'm really pleased I'm part of the legacy of it and happy to see it and I've seen the trailer and it looks like they've absolutely nailed it."

Disney is planning new "Star Wars" films throughout the next few years and is planning on making one franchise film a year. The plan is to alternate with trilogy films with standalone films. The company is already making "Rogue One" and is also planning a Boba Fett film.

"Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" opens on Dec. 18 this year.
