Michael Keaton Returning to Comic Book Movies with 'Imagine Agents'
It's been more than two decades since Michael Keaton has donned the Batman suit, but that doesn't mean he's done with comic book films just yet. Although last year's "Birdman" did feature a comic book character, it was not a comic book movie. This time, however, he is coming back to the true comic universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Oscar nominated actor has turned back to his roots and is now setting his sights on a new franchise, one that is a little less known. But that doesn't mean it won't have a big draw.
Keaton is currently developing a Boom! Comic titled "Imagine Agents." He is also set to produce the film as well as star in it.
The original comic was created by writer Brian Joines and illustrated by artist Bachan. The story takes on a "Men in Black" approach, as it is set within a secret government agency known as I.M.A.G.I.N.E.
The basic premise for the film is that this secret agency is tasked to keep the imaginary friends of children, who as it turns out are real, in check. They handle these things, which were previously thought to be figments of children's imaginations, when they get out of control and make sure they are in some way or another policed.
The film follows a 20-year veteran of the agency who is tasked with mentoring a young, emerging archivist to adapt to his new job, which will be similar to Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith's relationship in "Men in Black."
It all happens though during one standard day that turns a situation into a much larger crisis.
Cinema Blend also points out that the subject matter of dealing with imaginary friends is currently being explored in theaters right now with the film "Inside Out."
