Fans of the "Final Fantasy" series were treated to amazing news when it was confirmed that "Final Fantasy 7" will be getting a remake from Square Enix. But while many were eager to see better visuals and graphics, reports have come out that no new characters will be introduced into the reboot title.

"FF 7" came out almost two decades ago in 1997, under the direction of Yoshinori Kitase. But because of the rapidly growing technology, Square Enix developers have decided that it is best to upgrade the iconic title to suit modern times.

"My goal with the remake is to make it apply to the current era, the current generation of players that are going to be coming into contact with or playing FF7 for the first time through this remake," said game director Tetsuya Nomura to Wired. "I want to make it so it's relevant to the modern era."

While the people at Square Enix are determined to give the game a fresh feel, they are intent on maintaining the originality and style of the game that made it a hit to fans in the first place.

"We don't want to interfere with what makes the original title so iconic," Nomura added. As such, the team has decided not to touch "certain plot points" and elements that they feel fans have grown to love.

In this regard, fans can now expect that no new characters will be introduced into the game. The director has revealed to Famitsu that all players in "FF 7" will remain intact and no addition will be made into the roster.

Meanwhile, the team is set on making the visuals and graphics of the game at par with today's current standards and "closer to reality."

However, Nomura insisted that while the upcoming "FF 7" is a remake of the original, it will not be a direct copy with just better graphics as fans "don't need two of the same thing."

"If it's a full remake, then of course, we want to take a different approach," the director told Engadget. "If we actually just upgraded the visuals - there'd be no need for me to direct it."

The reboot version of "Final Fantasy 7" will be available to the PlayStation 4 as they hope the title will increase the sales of Sony's console. No plans on making the title available to other consoles have been discussed yet.
