Michael Peña Explores Good vs. Evil in 'The Vatican Tapes,' Reflects on Catholic Roots [Exclusive Photos]
"What the Bible has told you is true. A demon's greatest threat is not to your body, but to your soul." - The Vatican Tapes
The chilling new horror thriller "The Vatican Tapes" follows the ultimate battle between good and evil, God versus Satan.
Michael Peña ("American Hustle," "Cesar Chavez") plays Father Lozano, who is faced with the greatest test as a priest, yet he insists that "God is going to see you through this." However, the question remains: will 'He' really?
In the film, "Angela Holmes is ordinary 27-year-old until she begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close, causing serious injury and death. Holmes is examined and possession is suspected, but when the Vatican is called upon to exorcise the demon, the possession proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than ever imagined. It's all up to Father Lozano (Peña) to wage war for more than just Angela's soul, but for the world as we know it."
Being up against the Antichrist is a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
Peña, who grew up Catholic and was baptized and confirmed, says he has a strong faith, but pointed out there's a dark side as well.
"But the other side of it, the flip-side to it is, like, talking about, you know, the Antichrist and exorcisms get talked about every once and a while and, you know, we don't really know too much about them, but there's a possibility that they can exist, so that makes it scary for people," he told Dread Central in a recent interview.
He recalled seeing "Rosemary's Baby" and getting spooked by the unknown.
"I don't know if you believe it or not ... the Pope just said that the Antichrist is here ... on earth -- and that's the Pope," he explained. "So you're like, it kind of makes you think in what form, and he's a really well-respected person, so it kind of makes you think a little bit."
"The Vatican Tapes" also stars Kathleen Robertson ("Boss," "Murder In The First") two-time Oscar nominated actor Djimon Hounsou ("Amistad," "Blood Diamond") and Olivia Taylor Dudley ("Transcendence," "Arrested Development.").
