Liverpool Football Club has signed an attacker to a contract.

Goal is reporting Liverpool FC has signed Roberto Firmino to contract. The 23-year-old striker-midfielder will receive up to £28 million. Firmino, who is playing for Brazil in the Copa America, will complete a physical when the tournament is done.

Firmino had been targeted by Manchester United, which was prepared to give him a contract. Firmino scored 10 goals and 12 assists this past season. The attacking midfielder debuted for his country in November 2014 after an impressive performance in the Bundesleague.

BBC Sports is reporting that the length of the deal is for five years. With the arrival of Firmino, Liverpool are toying with the idea of transferring forward Raheem Sterling. Although Liverpool rejected rival Manchester City's offer for Sterling, he is expected to stay with the team for the remainder of his contract. Sterling joined Liverpool in 2010 and is under contract until 2017, but has rejected the offer of a new £100,000-a-week deal.

It is likely to be the second-largest transfer in the club's history behind the £35 million signing of Andy Carroll, but manager Brendan Rodgers will be content with the level of player the club are recruiting.

Firmino has been known to create plays and score. He has produced 21 assists over the past two seasons, which is more than any other Brazilian in Europe's top five leagues.

Liverpool FC tweeted out the signing of their newest acquisition:

So what will Liverpool be getting from Firmino? According to SB Nation, "He possesses excellent vision and understanding of what he's seeing on the pitch from a tactical sense. That comes through in several ways, the first and most obvious of which is his creative skill on the ball."
