T-Mobile iPhones: Users Reporting Crashing Phones and Blue Screens
T-Mobile users are complaining that their iPhones are crashing, restarting themselves and giving them the dreaded "blue screen of death," CNET reports.
On Wednesday, T-Mobile customers with iPhones have reported on Reddit, Apple's support forums and Twitter that their screens are turning blue on them and then rebooting. The error is happening more than one time, users say, as often as every 10-30 minutes. The issue has been isolated to T-Mobile subscribers with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 5S models.
There has been no official comment from Apple or T-Mobile, making it difficult to tell how many people have experienced problems with their iPhones. This glitch could be difficult to solve, since it is only affecting certain customers. A solution to the glitch might only work for some users and others could still experience issues. To solve this issue, T-Mobile and Apple will have to investigate the problem, create a fix and then release it to the public. That could take some time.
Macrumors reports that the error could be due to a recent T-Mobile carrier update being pushed out to the network, but it is unknown if T-Mobile recently pushed out any updates recently.
A user who was having problems with his phone contacted T-Mobile support and posted his interaction on Reddit.
"The sense I got from the technician is that a) they suspect memory problems, and b) they're getting a lot of calls about it," he posted.
Some users that experienced problems said a work around the glitch was to disable the WiFi calling in their settings. However, once WiFi calling was turned back on, the glitch reappeared. Disabling WiFi calling is not a permanent solution though.
T-Mobile tech support is advising some customers to perform a hard reboot of their iPhone. This can be done by holding down the Home button and the Sleep button until the phone's startup screen pops up. Another option that they mentioned was for users to delete their old text messages and then restore their iPhone to factory conditions. Restoring the iPhone is not recommended unless there is no other choice for a user.
Even with all of these suggestions, some users say they still are having problems.
"After having this happen for the fourth time, it seems that my phone is not able to stay on for more than maybe 5 minutes at a time," one user on Reddit said. "I did a factory restore and a backup restore. It did not help, unfortunately."
