In the "Harry Potter" novel series, author J. K. Rowling revealed via her Pottermore website a few secrets about his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, Entertainment Tonight reports.

First of all, Aunt Petunia -- before she married Uncle Vernon -- was in the market for a man. To be more specific, she was in the market for a man who was the anti-James Potter, though she did not know who he was or what he represented. But what audiences do know is that she did not want someone who had a livelihood of magic or fantasy.

This is most evident as displayed by her complete resentment of her sister who was a witch.

This forced her in earlier years to run away from her home where she ended up finding work in London at an office. It was also at this job where she met Vernon Dursley, who Rowling has described as "unmagical, opinionated, and materialistic." This means that he had a perfectly materialistic life with vanity possessions and no magical whimsies whatsoever.

The lines were clearly breached for Petunia as this is exactly what she was looking for in a man. He liked to do perfectly normal things, and was the object of her absolute affection.

The first meeting between Harry Potter's parents and the Durlseys happened over dinner and when Vernon asked James what kind of car he had, Potter responded with a "his racing broom."

This drove the couple apart from the Potters and the evening dinner ended in disaster.

Fans also found out that Hermione -- who is best known for her straight-laced, by-the-books personality -- broke the law when she carried all of their supplies in one bag for hunting Horcruxes. This later led to the Ministry of Magic enacting a ban of the Extension Charm due to its likelihood for abuse.
