'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Spoilers: Kat Graham Says She's Cheering For Bonnie and Damon to Hook Up
Actress Kat Graham opened up about the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries," revealing what she hopes will happen between Bonnie and Damon now that Elena is gone.
During the Season 6 finale, Elena said goodbye to her longtime lover and loved ones after Kai put a spell on her that will keep her in a coma-like state as long as Bonnie is alive. As a result, it is likely that she remain locked in a coffin for the next 60 to 70 years. In turn, this will have a major effect on Damon and her best friend Bonnie.
During an interview with E! Online, Graham revealed that she hopes Elena's loss will draw her character, Bonnie, and Damon closer. She's even open to the possibility of a romance forming between the two, and exploring how Elena's absence may potentially tear their friendship apart.
"I'm hoping for both," said the actress. "I'm hoping that we see both sides of their relationship and how it can affect them both because it's obviously going to screw with Bonnie and him, but especially Bonnie."
Unfortunately for Graham, a romance between Bonnie and Damon is probably not likely, teased executive producer Caroline Dries.
"The problem is that ... he [Damon] is still so madly in love with her [Elena]. It would feel false for him to meet someone else and have sparks and fall in love. The viewers also wouldn't embrace it; any girl who comes close to Damon gets clawed at with their opinions, so it's not something we're going to jump into as writers right away," reports Movie Pilot.
TVD creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson also opened up about Damon's future during the ATX Television Festival.
"The Season 1 version of Damon is the straight villain with what we learned was an obsession with a woman who just happened to look like our lead woman. And then over time that grew into a love story and it grew into a hero story and it grew into a redemption story. So, he went through all those chapters. He went through redemption. He went through hero -- at least partially, the root of him as a sassy, 'take no prisoners, do what you got to do to get it done,' anti-hero is still very much there," said Plec, according to CrossMap.
Because Elena will be M.I.A., "he now has more freedom to kind of be messy with his choices. I think you'll see a darker Damon with the sort of wisdom of his experience, but a freedom to act out as he may feel like he needs to," she explained, according to MTV.
