Joining Tarantino will be the cast of the movie which will include: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern. The premise of the film revolves around eight travelers who are caught up in a Wyoming snowstorm and take refuge at a remote stagecoach stopover.
Tarantino, who is considering retirement, won best original screenplay for Django Unchained at last year's Oscars, Time reports. It was at Comic-Con 2014 that he finally confirmed he was moving forward with his feature Western film.
It was announced that The Weinstein Company will be releasing the film with a exclusive two-week roadshow opening in 70mm. After the two-week engagement, the film will be released in the standard digital theatrical release nationwide on Jan. 8, 2016.
"The Hateful Eight" roadshow opens Christmas Day.
The Film Stage has an official synopsis of the movie.
"In 'The Hateful Eight' set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape," according to the description. "The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as 'The Hangman,' will bring Domergue to justice."
The two bounty hunters meet Major Marquis Warren and Chris Mannix. The four of them eventually come to a standstill during a blizzard, so they are forced to stay at Minnie's Haberdashery. Instead of seeing the owner when they get there, they see four strangers.
"Bob (Bichir), who's taking care of Minnie's while she's visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all," the description continued.
