Carmelo Anthony reportedly feels "betrayed" by the New York Knicks and president of basketball operations Phil Jackson following the team's lottery round selection in Thursday night's NBA draft.

With more highly rated players -- Justise Winslow, Emmanuel Mudiay and Stanley Johnson -- still on the board, the Knicks tabbed European big man Kristaps Porzingis with the night's No. 4 overall selection. Most draft experts project the 19-year-old as a project and a player at least several seasons away from being able to contribute to an NBA team on a regular basis.

"All they said was he's furious, he's livid, he feels completely hoodwinked and betrayed by Phil Jackson,'' the New York Post reported Steven A. Smith ranted on his Friday morning ESPN radio show of Anthony's reaction. "He feels like he was lied to and sold a bill of goods. He's willing to concede he wanted his money, but he didn't know it would be like this and this bad. He can't believe the second season for Phil Jackson he has to look forward to being worse than last season was."

Jackson later noted Anthony attended Porzingis' recent workout with the team and added he texted his star forward with news of the pick before it became official. With Anthony soon turning 31, the question is how much longer does he have to wait for a full-fledged Knicks rebuilding effort and if Jackson considered any of that in making some of his most recent moves.

The team also traded away veteran swing man Tim Hardaway Jr. on draft night for the rights to rookie guard Jerian Grant.

"Carmelo's always on my mind. He's our favorite son," said Jackson. "But the second most important thing is what we do for this franchise. That has to be a consideration. I let Melo know that when we made this choice. We anticipate it's going to be rough, whether we have a 19-year-old KP or 19-year-old whoever."

As far back as last December, Anthony began to publicly question his decision to resign with the Knicks after becoming a free agent in the summer of 2014. The Knicks finished the season with the league's second worse record (17-65) with Anthony playing in just 40 games because of injuries.

Anthony was also pursued in free agency by the Bulls, Rockets, Mavericks and Lakers.
