DMX Arrested on Unpaid Child Support Charges, Just Before Performing at NYC's Radio City Music Hall
For the time being at least, rap star DMX is again a free man after being bailed out of jail following his Friday night arrest in New York City, just as he was about to perform at Radio City Music Hall.
The New York Post reports the hardcore rapper was released soon after bond was posted late Friday for the "multiple" warrants he was being sought on. According to Rolling Stone, among them was one issued by an Erie County, New York judge for unpaid child supports payments rumored to be in the neighborhood of $400,000.
DMX, born Earl Simmons, was slated to serve as Master of Ceremony for a show featuring Mase, Rakim, Shaba Ranks, Pete Roc, the Lox and others.
Sheriff's deputies converged on the 44-year-old rapper as soon as he exited his vehicle and made his way for the Radio City stage. In addition to the child support warrant, the "Who We Be" rapper was also wanted on a bail jumping warrant in White Plains an aggravated unlicensed motor operator charge in Yonkers and a robbery charge in Newark.
In the latter case, a 21-year-old man claims DMX and several members of his entourage robbed him of $3,200 at gunpoint outside a Newark gas station on the night of April 5.
The man told police one of the men pointed the weapon at him while DMX snatched the money from his hand and fled in a fleet of black Escalades the group was traveling in. Reportedly, the rapper was in town that night performing at another event.
Over the past decade, DMX has now been arrested on charges ranging from animal cruelty, to dog fighting, to drug and weapons possession to driving under the influence.
