Ed Sheeran has his eye on Selena Gomez as his leading lady in an upcoming song he's hoping the two will come to collaborate on.

Hollywood Life reports with the two recently hanging out, Sheeran is frantically pushing "The Come Get It" singer to join him on a new track.

A source told the website Sheeran is convinced Gomez has a "great voice" and is perfect for one of his songs.

"Ed and Selena have been hanging out a lot together, but there's nothing going on there," the source added. "They just want to get to know each other better because they're considering working with one another."

The two were recently spotted together in Los Angeles at Tori Kelly's album release party looking like what some described as "cozy." But the pair would now have you believe that was all about soon working together and before long you might be able to see and hear the fruits of their labor.

"Ed would love to write for Selena," the source added. "He thinks she's super-talented, has a great voice and the right appeal to front one of his songs."

The only drawback could be Gomez's seemingly never-ending connection to ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. Reports are Sheeran wants no part of writing a song about Bieber that may spark his ire.

Sheeran and Gomez were recently at the same party as Bieber and reportedly all of the parties went out of their way to avoid one another. In fact, Bieber seemed to hint in his new "Where Are U Now" video that this time things may over between him and Gomez for good.

Hollywood Life reports in one sequence of the video, the words "Jelena 5ever" with an "X" over top of them flash on the screen, leaving watchers to speculate about what it all means for the 21-year-old Bieber and his one-time lady love.
