The newly released synopsis of Season 4 of "Arrow" reveals that fans have a lot to look forward to when the series returns to The CW this fall.

During the Season 3 finale, Oliver defeated Ra's al Ghul, the leader of the League of Assassins, and saved Starling City from destruction. Malcolm Merlyn then stepped up as Ra's successor, while Thea adopted a new superhero identity as Speedy. In addition, at the very end Oliver decided to hang up his hood and drive off into the sunset with Felicity.

Although the finale ended on a good note, Oliver and Felicity left the rest of Team Arrow to defend Starling City by themselves. That means that the weight of protecting the city has fallen on Laurel, Diggle and Thea.

According to series star Stephen Amell, the show will pick up six months from where the finale left off, reports Melty.com. The CW also released the official description for Season 4, teasing that Oliver's so-called retirement with Felicity won't last for long:

"After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (aka The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver's crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra's al Ghul, is anyone really safe?"

Season 4 of "Arrow" is scheduled to premiere on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
