Lupita Jones Stands With México After Trump Comments: 'We Will Not Participate in Miss Universe'
México is out of the running for the Miss Universe crown.
Lupita Jones, director of "Nuestra Belleza México," announced that the country would not have representation in the highly coveted Miss Universe pageant.
According to People En Español, hours after Televisa announced it would stop doing business with Donald Trump, Jones took to Facebook to make the announcement.
"As a Mexican I am really offended and angry, like everyone else," began Jones. "As Miss Universe I think Donald Trump is doing a lot of damage to the organization. Miss Universe is a competition with a lot of history in the world that has been categorized for calling countries to participate in an event where friendship and unity are the focus, and shooting down cultural barriers."
The former Miss Universe, who won the first title for México in 1991, previously made headlines when she criticized Trump's comments with a Facebook post and announced that she was considering removing the country from the competition. This time, however, Jones made up her mind.
"It is sad because his racist comments miss what the competition has promoted and represented for so many years, an atmosphere of harmony and peace among nations, for which, in agreement with Televisa, we will not participate in Miss Universe," continued Jones.
Como mexicana me siento muy ofendida e indignada igual que todos, como Miss Universo me parece que Donald Trump le está...

Jones' announcement comes days after Univision released a statement stating that they would not be airing the Spanish-language Miss USA live show and that they were cutting ties with Trump.
On Monday NBC, which airs the pageant every year, announced they were ending their professional relationship with the Republican presidential candidate.
"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,'' said the network. "Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."
