Jenke Ahmed Tailly: Meet The Man Behind Some Beyoncé's, Kim Kardashian's Looks
Jenke Ahmed Tailly is probably not a name many have heard before, but his work is something millions have set their eyes on, courtesy of Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian.
The stylist recently talked with Elle to discuss his career, use of African culture in his work and what it's like dressing some of the world's most influential women.
These days naming a few stylists is not that complicated. Like the celebrities they dress, professionals like Rachel Zoe, who has launched her own fashion collection, Johnny Wujek, who styles Katy Perry, and Kate Young, who went from Anna Wintour's assistant to consultant for Jason Wu, have all made names for themselves. Tailly however has chosen to stay in the background and lets his work do the talking.
With his style resume, the stylist, who is also a fashion editor, would surely have a huge following, especially since two of his biggest clients are celebrities with record breaking numbers of followers on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
Although Tailly mainly dresses Kardashian and her husband, rapper Kanye West, his biggest moment and career debut came from styling singer Beyoncé for "L'Officiel Paris" in 2011.
The magazine asked him to style the cover story, but Tailly also had a lot to do with choosing the singer.
"After 90 years, they only had two black girls on the cover, and I said I would really like the future to be more diverse," he said. "We were thinking Halle Berry or Beyoncé. And I said, maybe I can get Beyonce to do it because I am really good friends with her husband's lawyer. I sent my idea to Bey and she loved it."
While the shoot wasn't without some controversy because it included Beyoncé with a painted face for one image, as Entertainment Weekly reported, it helped establish the stylist.
Tailly's latest work was styling Kim Kardashian in the feathered and sheer Proenza Schouler dress that the reality star wore to this years CFDAs.
Of his working with and getting to style Kardashian, Tailly had nothing but positive things to say.
"Being African, I particularly find her body proportions so beautiful," he said. "But also, like Beyoncé, Kim is a perfect example of a person who is so internally beautiful, with such great values and work ethic."
Tailly also made it known that, contrary to popular belief, West does not dictate Kardashian's style.
"I think the person she loves to please first is her husband," he stated. "So his opinion does matter. He might suggest something or give us an opinion about something we're not sure about, but she knows what she likes."
